Wow-Worthy Brownstone
My newly married clients landed this expansive brownstone on the Upper West Side, and came to me to reimagine it for their new life together. Their timeline was tight, and their tastes not always aligned, but I’m always up for a challenge!
I began by taking the turn-of-the-century home down to its brick and joists. My team worked to preserve the charm of the architecture—like the stunning bay windows and vaulted ceilings—while bringing it up-to-date with transitional-meets-traditional design. What put it over the top: the one-of-a-kind found objects I incorporated, like the stunning antique French doors refinished to conceal their wet bar.
The couple came home to their reimagined brownstone, ready to start their new life in style. They loved the Old World feel and all the eclectic homey details that bridged their design styles perfectly. It was the start of their new blended family, and all the new memories they would make there together.

The open floor plan facilitates easy flow from the living room to the kitchen. To bring in an earthy feel, Robin chose a coffee table filled with river stones to anchor the family room.

The kitchen showcases a magnificent mix of materials and finishes. The white kitchen is in harmony with the stained wood cabinets, used in unison to create interest. The glass panels of the upper cabinets reflect light. Stainless steel tiles in the backsplash play off the commercial refrigerator and range.

The living room’s bay window is the perfect place for a cozy seating area. As a nod to the traditional design of the original brownstone’s architecture, a custom mantel with carved detail frames the fireplace.

For the space that connects the living and the formal dining room, Robin found a unique, antique French door and transom set. She had them refinished, and then outfitted the panels with lightly antiqued mirrors to create depth and open up the space. Behind the beautiful doors: a wet bar that can be revealed for entertaining.

This elegant powder room is like a jewel box. Robin designed the vanity with elegant mirrored inserts, and the cabinet hardware echoes the design of the wallpaper.

In the master bathroom, the bathtub is built into the bay window space, surrounded by a white onyx deck. The front of the bathtub showcases beautifully hand-carved wood panels.
